Lovers Eye 'Art to Wear'
A Lover’s Eye brooch, earring or ring is a striking and
intriguing piece of wearable art using clear glazed porcelain embossed with an
intricate French lace print. It incorporates a stunning hand painted eye, surrounded by beautiful gold lustre highlights. The brooches have a nickel plated brooch pin on reverse.
Lover’s Eye jewellery originated in the late English 18C and were love tokens worn all over the body but especially near the heart and were exchanged secretly between lovers.
These
individual, unique pieces are Jan's contemporary interpretation of love tokens
and symbolic images used in costume throughout history from the dress worn by
Queen Elizabeth 1 in the famous Rainbow portrait to Georgian eye miniatures. These
intriguing objects are certainly conversation pieces and tell a story setting
up a narrative between the wearer and an observer. Prices rang from a small brooch £38, a single eye earring £38, glove brooches £75-£85, large eye brooches £95-120
